ZAGREB – Monday, July 15 marked one year since Croatia’s team played against France in the Football World Cup finals in Russia. On Tuesday, Croatian towns as well as expat communities abroad organised various events to mark the anniversary of the World Cup silver medal-winning team’s triumphant return to Zagreb.
The events were held under the slogan “The Day of Unity, Pride, and Happiness”.
The initiative to relive the festivities of July 16, 2018 was launched by the national team coach Zlatko Dalic.
One of the best players in the team, Ivan Rakitic called on Croatians to wear their national checkered jerseys and celebrate the anniversary outdoors.
“Croatia is full of life. Let us show that,” says Rakitic, a vice-captain for the Croatia national team and a midfielder for the Spanish club Barcelona.
On Monday evening, the Office of President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic was illuminated in a checkered red and white pattern in celebration of the historic success of the soccer team.
