SIBENIK August 1 – Barone Fortress will host young jazz musicians from around the globe, as the the World Jazz Youth Orchestra arrives at the fort on Thursday, August 1st, under the artistic leadership of renowned trombonist, composer and arranger Louis Bonilla.
A full-time lecturer at the renowned Manhattan School of Music and the New England Conservatory, Bonilla is a longtime member of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, playing with Dave Douglas & Brass Ecstasy, and has also played with well-known musicians of other genres, including Diana Ross and Marc Anthony. For the past two years he has toured with Phil Collins.
The orchestra is a project of the Jeunesses Musicales International, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to young musicians, and has been active for six years. In previous years, the orchestra has performed at the Jazz is Back BP festival in Grožnjan, Croatia, among other festivals.
Under Bonilla’s leadership, the JM Jazz World Orchestra will perform at numerous European jazz festivals and prestigious concert venues. So far, they have been hosted by such renowned European festivals as the Gaume Jazz Festival and Brosella Jazz Festival in Belgium, and the Dutch North Sea Jazz Festival.
This year’s lineup includes two promising young Croatian musicians among the performers.
