ZAGREB, August 12 – The exhibition of works by Heimo Zobernig, who is counted among Austria’s most outstanding contemporary artists, opened on July 2, 2019 and is on display until August 18. The exhibition is curated by Martina Munivrana and includes a selection of paintings chosen for display by Zobernig, a prolific multi-media artist, which were produced between 2009 and 2018.
Born in 1958, Heimo Zobernig is an Austrian artist who works in a variety of media from painting and sculpture to site specific installation and design. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademie der bildenden Künste), Vienna in the late 1970s and graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts (Hochschule für angewandte Kunst), Vienna in 1983. His works were chosen to represent Austria in the 2015 Venice Beinnale, and he is a recipient of a number of prizes, including:
- Otto Mauer Prize, 1993
- City of Vienna Prize for Fine Art, 1997
- Frederich Kiesler Prize for Art and Architecture in Vienna, 2010
- Roswitha Haftmann Prize, 2016
The Museum of contemporary art states on its website: “By creating his personal artistic space, by harmonising different forms and contents, by questioning art history itself and the corresponding styles, Heimo Zobernig introduces us – in a quite humorous and peculiar manner – to the very questioning and deliberation on art after art.”
