Over 3,000 people participate in Sarajevo’s first Gay Pride march

ZAGREB, Sept 9 – Over 3,000 people gathered in central Sarajevo on Sunday for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first Gay Pride march, held under the slogan “Come out!”, local media said.

Participants were carrying rainbow flags and banners saying “Resistance”, “Solidarity”, “Woman, Lesbian, Queen” and “Refugees Welcome”. Among them were film directors Jasmila Zbanic and Haris Pasovic, screenwriter Fedja Isovic and the premier of Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto.

Security was provided by over 1,100 police officers. No incidents were reported.

Earlier on, a counter-march was organised, drawing more than a hundred people who said that the Pride parade should not be taking place in their city.
