ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Croatia Sun News) – A majority of councilors in the Zagreb City Council on Thursday voted for the erection of a monument dedicated to the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi at Bundek Lake.
The 2.3-metre-long monument will be constructed at a promenade along the lake.
The embassy of India is going to donate the bronze bust with Gandhi’s image, prepared by sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar., and will also financially support this project.
The sentence “There is no way to peace, peace is the way” will also be engraved on the monument.
Gandhi is commonly considered as the Father of the Nation in India, as he led the country to its independence.
Born and raised in a Hindu family in western India, and trained in law at the Inner Temple, London, Gandhi first employed nonviolent civil disobedience as an expatriate lawyer in South Africa.
The 150th anniversary of his birth is being marked this year.
