Croatian government earmarks EUR 3 million for organizing the Olympic qualifying basketball tournament

ZAGREB, Oct 5 (Croatia Sun News) – The Croatian government has unofficially approved funds for organizing the Olympic basketball tournament next June, according to reports from SportsKlub.

Following the confirmation that the Croatian basketball team would work on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics next year, news has now arrived that Croatia has been named among the candidates to host one of four tournaments.

Croatia could be given the opportunity to host one of the qualifiers, because the Croatian government has earmarked about EUR 3 million necessary for organizing the tournament. The tournament fee is € 2.3 million, while the rest goes to other costs of the tournament, SportKlub reports.

Europe is expected to have at least two of the tournaments, if not three, while one will almost certainly be outside the old continent. Currently, interest has been shown by Greece, Canada and Lithuania, but it is possible that Turkey, Serbia, Poland and Slovenia will also apply to host them.

The hosts will be selected on November 15.
