ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Croatia Sun News) – Osijek-Baranja County head Ivan Anusic on Tuesday presented project documentation for a HRK 50 million regional fruit and vegetable distribution centre, to be built in the Osijek suburb of Nemetin, with the help of money from EU funds.
Anusic said the centre, to include a refrigeration plant, a sorting plant and a drying unit, would be self-sustainable in terms of energy as it would operate on solar panels.
He said that a construction permit was expected to be obtained soon and that local authorities intended to complete the project by the end of 2020.
“The project should serve as a model for the entire country and centres like this one will also be built in other counties. I believe that it will help kick-start farming, small and medium enterprise, crafts and family farms.”
The fruit and vegetable distribution centre in Nemetin will have a capacity of 3,360 tonnes, of which a capacity of 690 tonnes will be available to green farmers whose produce will be handled separately from other produce.
