ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Croatia Sun News) – The Croatian textile and clothing industry has earned the highest revenues in the last ten years, the number of textile factories has been growing and employment had been rising.
“After a long time we have positive indicators in the Croatian textile and clothing industry as evidenced by the number of workers, total revenues and the number of companies. That especially refers to revenues, which have never been higher in the last ten years,” said the assistant director of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) Industries Sector, Jagoda Divic, stressing that in 2018 revenues totalled EUR 778 million, while in 2017 they totalled EUR 735 million.
The textile industry in 2018 recorded a 5.7% increase in exports from the year before, while the clothing industry saw a 0.7% increase. The most important Croatian markets are Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.
Textile industry imports have been growing more slowly than exports – by 1.9% – which is a good indicator whereas clothing imports grew 7%, it was said.
“The number of workers grew from 16,688 in 2017 to 16,973 in 2018, and the number of companies grew from 802 to 857,” said Divic.
She stressed that the key niche market in the EU was the technical textile market and that it had been growing steadily since 2009.
