ZAGREB, Dec 19 (Croatia Sun News) – The Croatian edition of the book called “The Politics of Football in Yugoslavia: Sport, Nationalism and the State” written by British historian Richard Mills was launched in Zagreb on Tuesday.
Presenting his book, Mills, a lecturer in Modern European History at the University of East Anglia, where he received his PhD, said that in the former Yugoslavia football had been always more than a game.
During his research for this book, Mills also used the archival materials stored in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zagreb and Split and held many interviews.
The 408-page book in Croatian (“Nogomet i politika u Jugoslaviji”) has been published by the Zagreb-based Profil company.
Reviews for the English edition recommend the book for anyone interested in the history of the sport.
In 2018, it was the winner of the Lord Aberdare Literary Prize for Sports History.
