ZAGREB, April 17 (Croatia Sun News) – International Museum Day, observed on 18 May, will be held this year as well, with all events organised in a virtual environment, in light of the new situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the recent devastating earthquake in Zagreb.
The Museum Documentation Centre (MDC) will gather programmes and full information about events organised by museums on the occasion of the International Museum Day, and publish everything on their joint website.
The events’ theme, “Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion”, is a special challenge today. “The pandemic and the earthquake put us all in danger on the one hand, and made us all vulnerable on the other, and we have to find a way to be inclusive,” the MDC stated.
“We believe that we will celebrate our 40th International Museum Day successfully and loudly – despite the coronavirus and the earthquake,” the MDC said on its website.
On 18 May, museums will celebrate their day digitally, while the International Council of Museums (ICOM) proposes the weekend from 14 to 16 November for planned “physical” events. The European Museum Night has been rescheduled to 14 November, and 16 November is ICOM’s 74th anniversary.
