Journalists’ Union: Journalism is for the people, not to serve politicians

ZAGREB, May 4 (Croatia Sun News) – On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, marked on May 3, the Croatian Journalists’ Union (SNH) said that Croatian politicians have proved that they “have not learned what the purpose of journalism is and that it primarily serves the public and not them.”

Unions stage virtual protest rally for 1 May

ZAGREB, May 1 (Croatia Sun News) – The Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) organised their first ever online protest on the occasion of International Workers’ Day on May 1, due to the circumstances caused by the coronavirus epidemic which eliminated the possibility of a large-scale gathering.

EU justice ministers: Extraordinary measures have to be in line with EU values

ZAGREB, April 7 (Croatia Sun News) – European Union member states agree that all extraordinary measures introduced because of the coronavirus pandemic have to be in line with the EU’s fundamental values, Croatia’s EU presidency said in a press release following a video conference of EU justice ministers.

NGOs: Mobile phone tracking not protective measure but human rights breach

ZAGREB, March 31 (Croatia Sun News) – Forty-four civil society organisations have issued a joint statement in a comment on draft amendments to the Electronic Communications Act, warning that tracking any mobile phone in the country is not a measure designed to protect against coronavirus but rather an unnecessary breach of human rights.
